Transitioning to Coleman Automotive Group
The most recent chapter of our history unfolded recently. In October 2025, Scott Taylor announced the sale of the Le Mars location to the Spirit Lake-based Coleman Automotive Group, led by CEO Kyle Coleman. With this acquisition, the dealership officially rebranded as Le Mars Chevrolet GMC. This transition was celebrated because it combined the best of both worlds:
Friendly Faces: Every single team member from the Total Motors era stayed onboard.
Greater Buying Power: Joining the broader Coleman Automotive Group, which includes established dealerships in Spirit Lake and Estherville, gave our Le Mars location massive inventory resources.
The partnership with Coleman brought an influx of fresh infrastructure and a massive selection of new and pre-owned vehicles. It also brought new optimized digital shopping tools. It guaranteed that Le Mars area drivers would enjoy small-town customer care backed by elite dealership capabilities.
Charging into the Future
To support the next generation of driving, Coleman is installing advanced Level 2 and Level 3 DC fast-charging stations directly onto our Le Mars lot. This upgrade ensures that electric vehicles like the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Hummer EV can be rapidly charged and fully serviced right here in Plymouth County.
Our Legacy in Plymouth County
Le Mars Chevrolet has officially entered an exciting new era under the stewardship of the Coleman Automotive Group. Located at 801 Hawkeye Ave SW in Le Mars, Iowa, our dealership has spent decades growing to better serve local drivers. Our name on the building has adapted over the years, from Motor City to Total Motors, and now to the Coleman family. But our foundational promise remains the same: delivering honest hometown service backed by the power of General Motors.
The Early Chapter: Motor City
Before we became the modern automotive hub we are today, our location laid its foundation under different banners. That includes a legacy tied to Motor City and the regional Motor Inn Group. Le Mars Chevrolet was previously owned by Motor Inn of LE MARS. During those early years, the dealership established a reputation for offering reliable transportation to the hard-working families of Northwest Iowa.
Operating a dealership in the "Ice Cream Capital of the World" requires a unique commitment to neighborhood values. Through shifting automotive landscapes and changing consumer tastes, our Hawkeye Avenue storefront remained a local fixture where neighbors helped each other find the perfect family car or farm truck.
The Total Motors Era
In August 2016, a major shift occurred when the dealership officially transitioned to Total Motors under the ownership of Scott Taylor. On August 5th, 2016 Le Mars Chevrolet took over and the rest is history! Total Motors had already been a recognizable independent name in the Le Mars business community since 2009. The 2016 acquisition allowed the business to fully step into its identity as a franchised Chevrolet and GMC destination.
Under the Total Motors banner, our facility grew significantly. We built up one of the largest and most respected collision and body repair centers in Plymouth County. Our service bays expanded, and the staff cultivated an incredibly loyal customer following. For nearly a decade, the team worked tirelessly to connect local drivers with legendary trucks like the Chevy Silverado and heavy-duty towing rigs.
